Ice and snow no match for determined crew
STANLEY, Va. — Crews from the Stanley Volunteer Fire Department (SVFD) recently battled a fire that completely engulfed a construction vehicle.
According to a statement from SVFD Captain Colin W. Huffman, the incident occurred Thursday, January 16, 2025.
At approximately 2 p.m., SVFD crews were dispatched to an excavator fire on Deer Run Road, near Kite Hollow.
Five units and 12 personnel responded to the incident.
Despite poor road conditions from the recent snow storm, five units and 12 personnel members responded, and firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze.
Crews used firefighting foam for suppression and were aided by the department’s UTV, which holds 75 gallons of water.
The excavator is deemed a total loss at an estimated value of $52,000.
