Todd Aaron Shifflett Arrested on January 5
PAGE COUNTY, Va. – What began as a domestic dispute turned into a multi-day manhunt for a man wanted in two counties.
According to an early December 27, 2024 social media alert from the Page County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), deputies were on-scene in Stanley, actively searching for a male subject.
The yet-publicly-identified male was in possession of a firearm. The alert urged area residents to shelter in place and bring animals indoors immediately while they searched for the man.
Shortly before noon on the same day, an update was added to the original announcement. The suspect was last seen wearing a camo or black sweatshirt, blue jeans and a black hat. Law enforcement deployed drones and K9 officers to assist in the search, and advised residents to report any suspicious activity.
By that afternoon, the PCSO posted an announcement providing the subject’s name and most recent DMV photo.
Todd Aaron Shifflett, 35, who had outstanding felony warrants out of Rockingham County, was considered armed and dangerous. He was now also wanted in Page.
That morning, deputies had responded to a report of a domestic situation between a male (Shifflett) and a female in the Deerfield Estates area.
While checking the location where he was last seen, deputies encountered Shifflett, who was on foot and brandished a weapon at the officers. Deputies took a defensive position behind cover and lost sight of the subject. No shots were fired.
By 2:30 p.m., the PCSO posted that they were still searching for Shifflett, but that the shelter-in-place advisory had been lifted. Despite the accusations and charges, local social media buzzed with support for Shifflett.
It appeared that finding information on the subject’s whereabouts would not be an easy task. However, on Sunday, December 29, the PCSO got a tip providing Shifflett’s possible location.
At approximately 12:19 p.m, deputies received a report that the subject was in a camper on a property in the 700 block of Honeyville Road. Law enforcement quickly established a perimeter at the location while probable cause was developed to obtain a search warrant.
After a warrant was obtained, a search was executed, but Shifflett was not located. A female in the camper stated that he had been on the property earlier, but had since left.
On December 31, the PCSO announced that they were offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and incarceration of the fugitive. Shifflett was eventually apprehended by the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) in Rockingham County.
According to an emailed statement from RCSO Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson, Shifflett was recognized and arrested on January 5, 2025, after a brief foot pursuit. No injuries were reported.
His charges in Rockingham County are: Capias: Bond revocation; Law Enforcement Command: Disregard and continue to drive; B&E in night-Dwelling- A&B intent while armed; Grand Larceny steal>= $1000 not from person; Allow/ Display fictitious inspection sticker (summons); Operate/park an unregistered vehicle (summons).
Charges in Page County include Capias: Bond Revocation; Assault and battery; Firearm/etc: pointing/brandishing; Firearm: Poss by non-violent felon convicted w/n 10y.
According to online court records, Shifflett is due to appear in Harrisonburg Rockingham County General District Court on March 13, 2025 for previous charges of Drugs: possess Sch I or II (arrest date November 15, 2024). For the other charges, he is due to appear in Harrisonburg/Rockingham General District Court on March 20, 2025.
Shifflett is currently being held without bond.
