Long-time chief steps down
LURAY, Va. — On December 3, 2024, The Luray Fire Department held elections of Executive and Fire Fighting Officers for 2025.
Faithfully serving as Chief since 2006, Mark Lancaster decided to step down to dedicate more time to his family business.
On January 7, 2025, Lancaster administered the oath to the 2025 Luray Fire Department Executive and Firefighting Officers, who are, as follows:
President – Steve Campbell
Vice President – Dwayne Hassett
Secretary – Christopher Molina
Asst. Secretary – Tyler Horn
Treasurer – Tim Lansberry
Asst. Treasurer – Mike Wilson
Chief – Scott Hilliard
Asst. Chief – Derek Gaunt
Captain – Ryan Gaunt
1st Lieutenant – Chad Breeden
2nd Lieutenant – Bryan Greer
2nd Lieutenant – Reed Beahm
2nd Lieutenant – Eric Breeden
In 2024, the Luray Fire Department answered at total of 463 calls for service, with 298 of those being emergency calls. The busiest day of the year was March 20, 2024, during the spring wildfires, with a total of 12 calls answered within a matter of a few hours.
In 2023, the department answered 454 calls for service, with 300 of those being emergency calls.
Organized in 1901, the Luray Fire Department remains 100% volunteer. They are organized as a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation.
