MADISON COUNTY, Va. — Virginia State Police (VSP) are investigating a fatal crash that killed a Brightwood woman on Saturday.
According to an emailed media release from VSP Sergeant Brent W. Coffey, the incident occurred February 22, 2025.

At 6:20 p.m., a 2015 Hyundai Elantra was traveling north on S. James Madison Highway (Route 15) when it abruptly slowed and was rear-ended by a northbound 2015 Toyota Camry.
The impact caused the Hyundai to cross the centerline and collide head-on with a southbound 2021 Subaru Crosstrek, near Forest Drive.
The driver of the Hyundai, Erica L. Collier, 27, suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to UVA Health University Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The driver of the Subaru, a 16-year-old female from Fairfax, suffered minor injuries but refused treatment at the scene.
The driver of the Toyota, Matthew J. Goins, 20, of Gordonsville, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. He was charged with following too closely.
The crash remains under investigation.
