Sold-out event raises more than $11,000
STANLEY, Va. — The Page County Democratic Committee (PCDC) recently held its annual fundraising dinner on Sunday, May 4, 2025.
The sold-out event filled the Stanley Fire Department Hall to near capacity, as attendees mingled, bid on auction items, and learned more about the PCDC’s role in creating positive local change.
This year’s theme, “Roots, Branches and Blooms,” highlighted the PCDC’s ever-evolving role in the community.
“We’re focusing more on who we are in terms of relevance in what is primarily a red county,” said PCDC Vice Chairman Gary Grant, “but we’re also focused on bringing like-minded people together to do good — not just for Democrats, but for everybody.”
Grant, a talented local artist who also designed the event’s logo, explained how this year’s theme aligns with the PCDC’s mission.
“The idea of ‘Roots, Branches and Blooms’ is that we certainly have enough local political roots in this county to be able to look at the past few decades, and say we have accomplished wonderful things,” said Grant. “We are very mindful that we need to branch out, and to represent a good cross-section within the county. As we grow our numbers, we’re sure to see additional positive results, or blooming, from that growth.”
The event began with a welcome announcement from Master of Ceremonies (and PCDC chair) Miles Morimoto.
Democratic gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger was unable to attend the event, but shared a personal, pre-recorded message that was shown to attendees (video, below).
Popular local group “The Hasty Brothers” provided musical entertainment.
In-person speakers included Pete Barlow, prospective District 6 candidate, Andrew Peyton, District 34 candidate, Brad Skipper, Shenandoah Co. Democratic Committee Chair, and keynote speaker, Delegate Elizabeth Guzman (District 31).
After dinner was served, live and silent auctions were held and included items such as original artwork, sporting event tickets, gourmet foods, stunning jewelry, and local recreation packages.
The event was made possible by substantial volunteer hours and donations from local businesses and individuals. More than $11,000 was raised.
According to a written statement from PCDC board members, every cent will be used directly to support the committee’s “efforts to inform, inspire, and engage local voters — and to make the community stronger and healthier.”
