Crews working to restore service as quickly as possible
LURAY, Va. — On Thursday afternoon, Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative (SVEC) announced that crews are still working to restore service that left thousands without power.
According to an emailed SVEC media release, outages were primarily due to the February 6, 2025 ice storm. Western Rockingham County was hit the hardest.
Trees, overcome by ice, fell into power lines to cause a majority of outages. At one point, more than 6,000 members across the valley were without power.
As of 4 p.m. Thursday, more than 2,300 members were still out of service, with about 2,000 of those located in Rockingham County.
All locations that currently have a crew dispatched are estimated to be restored by 10 p.m. Thursday. The remaining locations can expect full restoration by 6 p.m. Friday.
At the storm response’s peak, SVEC had about 100 “outage devices” Thursday afternoon, which translated to 100 different locations to visit and restore service. Crews continue to work as quickly and safely as possible.
The power company encourages members to visit the SVEC OUTAGE MAP via the web or via the MySVEC app. The real-time map will reflect whether a current outage is expected to be restored on Thursday or Friday.
