LURAY, Va. — A Shenandoah man has been indicted on a Class 6 felony stemming from an incident late last year.
On November 21, 2024, the Page County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) responded to a welfare check request regarding a canine in the vicinity of Mill Run Road. Officers discovered that the dog was deceased.
Upon conducting an investigation, it was determined that the dog had died from an apparent gunshot wound. Interviews and further investigation led to the identification of those involved.
On November 23, 2024, Michael Alan Clapper, 61, was arrested on charges of felony animal cruelty (Code 3.2-6570). Angela Marie Daras, 51, was arrested for felony conspiracy to commit animal cruelty (Code 18.2-22/3.2-6570).
According to online court records, the case against Daras was dismissed in Page County General District Court on April 24, 2025.
Clapper, however, appeared before a grand jury in Page County Circuit Court on May 7, and was indicted on a Class 6 felony for the torture or maiming of a dog or cat.
According to online records, he is scheduled to appear again in Page County Circuit Court on July 16 at 9 a.m.
