LURAY, Va. — In April of this year, town administrators announced that the popular beach and swimming area at Lake Arrowhead would be closed for the 2025 season.
The written announcement, posted on the town website and shared via social media, cited staffing shortages and legal concerns as reasons for the closure.
An especially hot summer has prompted local residents to continue discussing the matter in person and via online forums. By mid-July, rumors began circulating that the closure of the beach and swimming area is permanent, and not just for the 2025 season. More than one person claimed to have verified the information through official sources.
When contacted for clarification by Shen-Valley Times, Luray Mayor Stephanie Lillard offered the following response via email:
“Thank you for reaching out to seek clarification. The matter has not been further discussed since the Council took action in advance of the 2025 season and it is not currently scheduled for any further discussion at this time.”
