PAGE COUNTY, Va. — Virginia State Police (VSP) are investigating a single vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Luray woman on Tuesday.
According to a media release from VSP Public Relations Coordinator Matthew Demlein, the incident occurred July 22, 2025.
At approximately 12:52 a.m., a 2023 Mitsubishi Mirage was going in reverse on Kite Hollow Road with the driver’s side door open. The vehicle then drove off of the left side of the road and down an embankment, where it struck a tree.
The driver, Jennifer N. Atwood, 42, died at the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt.
Kite Hollow Road sits at the base of Shenandoah National Park and is about five miles below Skyline Drive.
According to VSP, the crash remains under investigation.
