LURAY, Va. — The Luray Volunteer Fire Department (LVFD) is reminding motorists to use caution on area highways as deer activity increases this fall.
At approximately 7:47 p.m. on Oct. 24, 2025, firefighters responded to a crash involving a deer along U.S. Route 211 westbound.
Two occupants were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. According to the LVFD, the animal ran out in front of the vehicle and crashed through the windshield. No major injuries were reported.
“What we found serves as a stark reminder that when one of these animals jumps in front of a moving vehicle, the results can be disastrous,” the department said in a statement. “The occupants of this car were very fortunate that things were not much worse. We are very thankful that they are okay. Our furry friend, and their car, not so much.”
Authorities urge drivers to stay alert, especially during evening hours when deer are most active.
