LURAY, Va. — The Luray Fire Department (LFD) responded to five emergency calls between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2025, with all incidents handled by more than 15 volunteer firefighters from Company 1.
The first call was reported at 10:54 a.m. for a vehicle fire on U.S. 211 West near Dan’s Steakhouse. According to a written statement from the LFD, crews found a mechanical malfunction that caused overheating and burned insulation on the firewall. Firefighters extinguished hot spots and returned to service without incident.
At 12:11 p.m., Company 1 was dispatched to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 211 West near Taco Bell. Traffic was temporarily rerouted through the Food Lion Shopping Center while crews worked at the scene. No injuries were reported by the LFD. The cause of the crash was not disclosed. Firefighters cleared the call and immediately responded to another incident.
At 12:21 p.m., crews were dispatched to the 600 block of West Main Street for a crash involving a tractor-trailer and a telephone pole. Upon arrival, firefighters found the pole sheared off at ground level, with multiple utility lines resting on the tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle.
Law enforcement closed the street from the Page County Public Schools office to The Rec Center. Emergency crews remained on scene for approximately one hour before turning the scene over to Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative for repairs. No injuries were reported by the LFD. The cause of the crash was not disclosed.
At 1:38 p.m., Brush 10 was requested to assist the Stanley Volunteer Fire Department with an outside fire. Crews remained on scene for about one hour before returning to quarters.
The final call occurred at 2:16 p.m., when Tanker 1 was requested to assist Warren County Fire and EMS with an outside fire in Bentonville. Tanker 1 supplied water to another tanker before returning to service.
All five incidents were handled by volunteer personnel from Company 1.
As of 4:30 p.m., West Main Street remained closed to thru traffic.
