No proof of income or financial status required
LURAY, Va. — A literal truckload of watermelons will arrive in Page County on Saturday for free distribution to residents and local food pantries.
The giveaway will be held from 9 a.m. to noon September 12, 2026 at Page United Methodist Church, 1062 Springfield Road in Luray — next to Valley Star Farm.
The effort is being organized with support from the Society of St. Andrew Gleaning Network, Page One and United Methodist churches in Page County, Luray and Gainesville.
Other area food pantries will also be invited to collect watermelons for distribution beyond Page County.
The watermelons will be available at no cost as part of an effort to provide fresh food to people in need.
No financial or employment information is required. Folks are welcome to stop by and pick up a watermelon — or two.
Additional volunteers are needed to help with watermelon distribution at the event.
