Heat index values up to 107° expected
LURAY, Va. — The National Weather Service in Washington, DC has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for Page County and surrounding areas.
The warning is in effect from 11 a.m to 9 p.m. on June 23, 2025 for Virginia and West Virginia counties — including Washington, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren, Clarke, Berkeley and Jefferson.
Dangerously hot conditions, with heat index values up to 107°, expected.
Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.
Precautionary/Preparedness Actions:
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned environment, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors.
Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
The ASPCA advises pet owners to keep pets indoors, to make sure they have a shady place when venturing outside, and to not over-exercise them. Walking pets on asphalt is also not recommended during the extreme temperatures.
An Extreme Heat Watch is also in effect for Page County and surrounding areas through Tuesday, June 24. According to local forecasts, daytime temperatures will remain in the 90s for at least another week.
