HARRISONBURG, Va. — On July 23, 2025, the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a call reporting that a woman had been attacked with a knife.
The 3:43 p.m. call prompted an immediate response from emergency responders and law enforcement.
The victim, a 54-year-old Harrisonburg resident, was transported to Sentara RMH with critical injuries.
Members of the Harrisonburg Police Department (HPD) and major crimes detectives immediately began searching for the suspect, who had fled the scene.
HPD K9 Riggs successfully tracked the suspect’s scent, leading detectives to a possible location.
As a result of the canvas, officers obtained surveillance footage, which was shared on multiple platforms. The suspect was soon identified as 44-year-old Hunter Addington Booth of Harrisonburg.
The Harrisonburg Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T.) Team executed a search warrant at Booth’s known residence on Chicago Avenue, and he was taken into custody without incident. He is being charged with the following:

According to HPD, the victim did not know her attacker. Thanks to the quick action of first responders and hospital staff, she is expected to make a full recovery.
Online court records show that Booth will next appear in Harrisonburg/Rockingham General District Court on September 10.
He’s due to appear in the same court on September 16 for a January, 2025 incident in which he was charged with disturbing the peace, drug possession, and assaulting law enforcement.
