Join in on the run or show up at scheduled stops in memory of lives lost
PAGE COUNTY, Va. — A memorial run will take place in Stanley and Luray on Friday, Sept. 11, honoring those killed and affected by the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Local veteran and community member Kevin Moses organized the run, which will begin at the Stanley Volunteer Fire Department and end at the Luray Volunteer Fire Department.
The run is scheduled to begin at 8:46 a.m. — the exact time American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.
The route will include East Main Street in Stanley and U.S. 340 Business toward Luray.

The 9.11-mile route will include meaningful stops at:
Stanley Elementary School – Sharing the significance of September 11 with the next generation and honoring the courage of the first responders and everyday Americans who answered the call.
Ed Good Memorial Park – Pausing at Stanley’s 9/11 memorial, which includes a piece of steel recovered from Ground Zero.
Antioch Independent Bible Church – Where the special 9/11 flag carried by the runners will be raised to half-staff in remembrance.
Luray Volunteer Fire Department – Where the run will conclude with the American Flag being presented to firefighters gathered to receive the Colors.
Twenty-five years later, the responsibility to remember belongs to all of us.
On September 11th, fly your flag. Step outside. Encourage the runners. Talk to your children about why this day matters.
May we remember those we lost, honor those who ran toward danger, and never forget the way Americans stood together in the days that followed.

Motorists traveling through Stanley and toward Luray should expect runners, support vehicles, temporary traffic interruptions and possible delays from approximately 8:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Drivers are encouraged to allow additional travel time, use alternate routes when possible, slow down and watch for runners and support vehicles.
The community is encouraged to cheer on runners at any of the scheduled stops. Honking along the route is also welcome.
Want to join in on the run?
Runners must be able to run a 14-minute-mile pace for at least one mile.
Vehicles will be on hand if runners wish to run a mile, rest and then run again.
