Foster Named as Luray's Interim Police Chief

LURAY, Va. — The Luray Police Department (LPD) has announced the appointment of Lieutenant Lonnie W. Foster, Jr. as the town’s interim police chief.

In a July 7, 2026 social media statement, the LPD posted the following message:

Foster in 2021 with now former Chief Bow Cook (LPD)

Today’s LPD announcement did not indicate when a permanent chief of police might be named.

An official bio for Foster was not provided, but according to a previous social media post, he has been with the LPD for two decades.

Lt. Foster has been a general instructor and firearms instructor for the department, and served as a supervisor for many years. He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant in 2021.
