Plenty of family fun scheduled for May 23 and 24
SHENANDOAH, Va. — The town of Shenandoah has a seemingly endless list of events and activities slated for its 2025 Memorial Day Festival.
Bobby Comer, Sr., a volunteer with the Shenandoah Volunteer Fire Company for 62 years, will be the Grand Marshal of Saturday’s Parade.
The two-day celebration kicks off on Friday, May 23 with the following events:
Food, games, and live music at the carnival grounds 4:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Shenandoah Fire Company 70, 221 Third Street.
Steamed shrimp will be ready at 5:00 p.m. at Shenandoah Moose Lodge #2176. Preorder by calling (540) 218-4900 or (540) 742-9282 1675 US Hwy 340 S.
Mad Cat Catfishing Tournament – Check in at Shenandoah Landing & River Park (315 Morrison Road) between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on May 23. There is a $20.00 entry fee with a side pot for the biggest fish for $10.00. The weigh in time is 7:00 a.m. on May 24. If you are late, you will be disqualified. Cruz-in on First Street – 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. All makes/models/years welcome. There are no registration fees. Event sponsored by Jr’s Tire Service.
Flag Retirement by Boy Scout Troop 8 – Veterans Park (205 Virginia Avenue) 7:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m.
Saturday, May 24 events are as follows:
Yard and Bake Sale – Shenandoah Pentecostal Holiness Church (300 Shenandoah Avenue, Shenandoah, VA 22849) 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Vendor/Craft Show/Yard Sale 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. at KVK 425 Quincy Avenue.
Petting Zoo Shenandoah Landing & River Park (315 Morrison Road) 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Grampy’s Village Zoo will be setting up a petting zoo.
Car/Truck/Tractor Show – KVK 500 Quincy Avenue. Check out classic cars 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Memorial Walk – 10:00 a.m. VFW, Post 8613 Avis O. Comer (1103 Varina Avenue). Come and take a solemn walk to remember the Virginia soldiers who have been honored at the town’s past memorial festivals.
Memorial Service – Shenandoah VFW, Post 8613 Avis O. Comer (1103 Varina Avenue) 10:15 a.m. – 11 a.m. Join Mayor Clinton Lucas, Jr. as he leads the service to honor local soldiers.
Book Sale – Shenandoah Community Library (418 S. Third Street) 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
11:00 a.m. Food Pantry and Clothes Bank – First Christian Church 312 Third Street. Free food Boxes will contain meat, dairy, fresh produce, and non-perishable items.
Children’s Parade – Shenandoah Landing & River Park (315 Morrison Road), 1:00 p.m. Children are invited to the walking track in their most patriotic finery. They may also decorate their bikes, wagons, strollers, and electric vehicles. Sponsored by the Daughters of the American Revolution, Shenandoah River Chapter 1:00 p.m.
Main Parade begins at 4:00 p.m. Portions of Route 340, Maryland Avenue, First Street, and Virginia Avenue will be blocked off for this event.
